Composite Task Force

Preamble

The Composite Task Force was formed to build on the momentum of the five faculty-driven task forces initiated by the Provost in 2008 to examine various matters within the university. These task forces were: USF World; Integrated Interdisciplinary Inquiry; Faculty Roles, Responsibilities and Rewards; Global Sustainability; and Community Engaged Scholarship. The task forces comprised faculty members, staff, students and administrators from across USF, including representation from regional campuses, and engaged the broader USF community in discussions.

The task forces were charged to make recommendations to move the university towards AAU status. The immediate objectives for each committee were to (i) assess current activities at USF; (ii) identify barriers at USF; and (iii) document activities at public AAU institutions. Much of the committee work entailed examining other models, surveying faculty members, department chairs, and directors, and then making a series of recommendations as to how any barriers to progress might be overcome. This composite report integrates some of the common findings of the individual task forces and highlights where policies or practices within the institution might be changed to facilitate interdisciplinary activities, global initiatives, and community engaged scholarship while considering faculty members’ roles, responsibilities and rewards. Definitions and further details can be found in the individual task force reports.
